Radionuclide identification devices
Radionuclide identification devices (RIDs) are hand-held measuring instruments for the detection and identification of radioactive substances (natural, medical, industrial). They are mainly used at national borders, by police and firefighters to locate radioactive sources and determine the radioactive substances of which they are composed, but they can also be used in all branches of science, industry and medicine. RID instruments usually measure gamma (photon) radiation, and can optionally measure alpha, beta and neutron radiation. These devices are also called identifiers and are often combined - multifunctional devices that are also used for spectrometry.
